1914—The Turning Point in History - Really?
by berrygerry in1914the turning point in history.
30 from the human standpoint, the world troubles and global wars foretold in the bible were far from the thinking of the pre-1914 world.
german statesman konrad adenauer said: thoughts and pictures come to my mind, .

The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society has always claimed that what made the year 1914 significant were the events that were taking place in "the realm invisible."
I look forward in eager expectation to the day the lead article in The Watchtower (study edition) is titled, "1914 -- Suddenly, NOTHING HAPPENED."
The is NO "Realm Invisible"!
There are NO "spiritual creatures"!
You do NOT have a "soul"!
Stop letting yourself be misled by retards and con-men!
Don't give control of your life over to neurotic sociopaths!

JW Middle Schoolers vs Non JW Middle Schoolers - what was your middle/high school experience?
by Julia Orwell ini'm a secondary school teacher and i've spent a lot of time at school this year since i've left jws simply observing student dynamics.
i do a lot of playground duty and have the opportunity to observe the kids at play and in the classroom.
i've especially had the opportunity to observe middle school kids, that is, kids between 12 and 15 in my state.. my observations of these 'worldly' children are:.

Julia Orwell asked, "...I was not raised JW and would like to hear from those of you who were, commenting on my observations and including your own experiences."
I was a bit gifted academically, winning a second-grade spelling bee (winning a prize! YAY!) and a school-wide general science exam in Junior High School for which I received a small medal. I was a candidate for the entrance exam for the Bronx High School of Science (I failed the math portion of the test).
As Jim_TX said, "No dating. No girlfriends. Nothing." In one of my sophmore HS classes, there was this REALLY pretty girl with long dark red hair who invited me to sit near her. She moved so that her hair brushed over my face. "You smell like CIGARETTES!" I said. Our brief affair was over. -

Splinter Groups
by Kenneson inthe watchtower bible and tract society was born in dissent.
charles taze russell, its founder, (was a presbyterian, then a congregationalist, then a skeptic, then an adventist, and finally originated his own brand).

Kenneson said, "Herbert W. Armstrong's group is known as the Worldwide Church of God. I don't think he was affiliated with the Watchtower Society. Anyone know for sure?"
You are correct, Kenneson, HWA was contemporaneous with the WTB&TS, and happened to pick some of the same special dates as the WTB&TS - 1975 - but for entirely different reasons.
There are many ways to fall out of the STUPID tree, but they all arrive at the same place - on the ground. -

Two thoughts:
First, you say, "They don’t read apostate stuff." I wonder who decides for them what is "Apostate Stuff"?
Second, you mentioned that "This group of JWs still believe that God is at some point going to intervene into man’s affairs." That delusion is probably the last to die.

CO Comes Up With A New Way To Be Judgemental...
by JW_Rogue inat the latest co visit something very strange happened.
during the meeting with the elders and servants he passed out a copy of a hypothetical publisher card and asked us what we could learn from it.
upon receiving it i saw that the average hours were pretty good, it had return visits and quite a few bible studies.

I think it is possible that the GB has realized that it is very easy for a publisher to be virtually inactive but reporting good hours. Only by having the publishers show up and go out in the not-"Bible-based" D2D work can the shepherds be certain the aren't being lied to.
They fail to grasp that a person could use the D@D as a mild fitness routine and never ring any doorbells, or use the opportunity to discuss anything other than the "good news" while at the door.
In short, the attitude of "You want me to go through the motioons? OK, I'll go through the motions" will increase, because the GB has completely removed the basis for ant feeling of "urgency" about D2D work; they have cut their organizational throat.

Did Ray Franz manage to live out a comfortable retirement from the proceeds of his books.
by joe134cd ini'm just curious if anybody knows.
firstly i don't take issue with the man making money from his books and if he was able to live comfortably from it then i say power to him.
but what i'm wanting to know was just how successful was it and did it allow him to live out the remainder of his years in comfort e.g buy a house, eat good food etc.

I find it amusing and ironic that people who probably pirated their own copy of "COC" and/or "ISOCF" are now wondering if Ray enjoyed a rich and prosperous life with the "income" provided by the sale of his books.
Now perhaps I'm being unfair. Perhaps the person raising this question is not one of those who were so EAGER to produce "free" digital versions of Ray's books. They might even claim to be shocked to learn that any member of the XJW community would parasitize the strenuous work of someone as "holy" as Ray Franz was.
In the words of Madame Clinton, "at this point, what difference does it make?" You see both Ray and his widow are now dead and beyond any comfort you might offer.
...but if you have any money you'd like to donate to Ray, send it to me and I'll make sure he gets it.
No, REALLY!
